Mane Origin made its global backstage debut at KidSuper's Spring/Summer 2027 runway show, staged at Nu Stadium in Miami as part of the FIFA World Cup celebrations — and hair lead Richard Phillipart used the brand's full styling range to build 48 completely individual looks, one for each competing nation.
Designer Colm Dillane titled the show Resenha, after the Brazilian expression for the conversations and connections that happen around football rather than the match itself. Each of the 48 looks represented one of the competing countries, and Phillipart echoed that brief in the hair. The show opened with a live performance from Austin Millz, featured UK DJ Barry Can't Swim on the runway, and closed with a set from Sean Paul.
For working stylists, the technical brief is the interesting part. Phillipart gave every model's hair a controlled "damp" effect — without the hair reading wet or flat — built around each model's natural movement and texture. The looks spanned shaved heads, mullets, long flowing hair, intricate braiding and locs. No two matched.
"For the looks at this season's KidSuper show I was inspired by the collection's vision to include the 48 countries of the World Cup," Phillipart said. "With each look representing a country, I wanted to echo this in the hair looks. Embracing the idea that each model had just played football, showered and then walked out to the pitch wearing their country's look, I purposely gave each model's hair a 'damp' effect without allowing the hair to appear wet or flat. Looks included shaved heads, daring mullets and long flowing hair alongside intricate braiding and locs. No two looks matched, but they were all perfectly in tune with each other."
The range behind the looks
The founding story matters for stockists weighing the brand. Beth Gowland and James Taylor built Mane Origin around a simple proposition: professional styling performance without environmental compromise. The launch collection runs to four core products — Matte Clay, Matte Hair Spray, Deluxe Hair Pomade and Sea Salt Spray. Every formula is sulphate-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free, and every product ships in packaging that contains no plastic at all.
The sustainability model extends beyond formulation. Through its partnership with Treeapp, Mane Origin plants one tree for every ten products sold. A forthcoming Mane Origin Foundation will back environmental initiatives alongside projects focused on men's mental health and wellbeing — a positioning that gives barbershops and salons serving male clients a brand story with genuine talking points at the chair.
For salons pricing the range in, the complete collection starts at £18.99/$26.00, putting it in premium styling territory alongside established grooming lines rather than budget backbar product. The runway debut at one of the season's most talked-about shows gives the brand immediate editorial credibility with clients who follow fashion.
The appointment-level team behind the Miami show also signals intent: creative direction from Colm Dillane, makeup by Chantel Miller for MAC Cosmetics, and Phillipart — a renowned international session stylist — choosing the sustainable line over conventional backstage staples.
With the collection now shipping following its Miami debut, the next data point to watch is whether the promised Mane Origin Foundation launches on schedule and how quickly the four-product line expands beyond its initial styling core.
