- TRC was founded by Jordan Yanatos and runs on three pillars: Beauty, Business and Wellness.

Sam Villa, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of the Sam Villa Company, received the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Award from The Rainbow Convention (TRC) on October 24 in Albany, NY. The award caps 50 years of work as an artist, educator, mentor, creator and advocate for representation across professional hairdressing.
Villa did not leave Albany empty-handed either. The city of Albany issued him a Mayoral Citation, recognizing his contributions to the professional beauty industry and his lasting impact as an educator and leader. Two honors, one evening.
Each year TRC selects a single pillar of the industry for the award. The criteria are specific: a legacy that continues to elevate the craft of hairdressing, shape its future, and maintain integrity and inclusivity at every level of success.
Why did TRC choose Villa?
TRC founder Jordan Yanatos, known professionally as Pinup Jordan, said the decision required no debate. "I don't think anyone could embody that more than Sam Villa who has spent 50 incredible years as an artist, educator, mentor, creator, and advocate for representation," Yanatos said. "There are people who make a name for themselves in the industry, and then there are people who change the industry for everyone who comes after them. Sam Villa is one of those people."
For working stylists, Villa's selection signals what TRC values in an educator: sharing technique openly rather than protecting it. Villa framed the point himself. "Knowledge is something to share, not guard. When one of us succeeds, we all have the opportunity to grow," he said. That philosophy has practical weight for salon teams deciding how to structure internal training and mentorship.
What did Villa say in Albany?
Accepting the award, Villa pointed to the audience as much as the trophy. "Receiving this Lifetime Achievement Award from The Rainbow Convention community in Albany, NY was an honor, yet honestly, the people are what made it extra special. WOW…did I love the energy in the room…the vivid-color creativity and the opportunity to connect through up-close conversational education," he said.
"This community celebrates individuality and makes room for everyone. That sense of belonging is what we need to make the industry stronger, and The Rainbow Convention brings it. I left feeling grateful, inspired, and excited!"
Looking back on five decades, Villa stayed pointed forward. "It's not just about the hair…it's about the people, relationships, and lives we have the opportunity to touch along the way," he said. "Fifty years in this industry and I still wake up every day grateful to be a part of it…and believe me, I'm just getting started."
What is The Rainbow Convention?
TRC operates on the philosophy of "by hairstylists, for hairstylists." It convenes hairstylists, educators, brands and industry leaders around three core pillars: Beauty, Business and Wellness.
Jordan Yanatos, a hairstylist, educator, entrepreneur and founder of Pinup Jordan's Mermaid Lounge, founded the event. Its direction is set by the IDEAS Board, which stands for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Support. The board's stated commitment: an industry where beauty professionals of diverse backgrounds, abilities and experiences can learn, contribute and thrive.
For salon owners, TRC's model of up-close conversational education paired with community-building offers a template for staff development that goes beyond technique alone. The next signal to watch is who TRC names for its 2027 award cycle.
